Chem Regents Buddy – Help Students Prepare for The New York Chemistry Regents Exam

For New York students and teachers preparing for the Regents test, this app is a great resource for both test preparation and lesson planning. With a little more introductory information on using the app, it could also be a Buddy to homeschoolers and chemistry teachers in general.

    What Diane Liked

For New York residents, in particular, this app looks like an extremely thorough study and test preparation tool. Teachers, especially, will find this app to be a valuable resource for developing chemistry lesson plans. Parents could also help students prepare by working through some of the lessons or printing out the flashcards for their children. The Videos and Chemistry News Feeds would be very helpful in applying chemistry lessons to the “real world.” This app provides immediate access to a lot of information and resources.

    Suggested Enhancement

I do not live in New York, so was not aware this app was designed for a particular test. We are homeschooling our jr. high student, so I saw Chemistry and Buddy and was immediately drawn to the app like an excited electron. With a little more introductory and how to use information, this app would be helpful to homeschoolers, teachers and students in other states. It would also be really nice if the flashcards were more interactive. Right now the question and answer appear together on the same screen, meaning that to use the cards directly from the app, someone must quiz the student verbally. It would be great if students could quiz themselves. Finally, I encountered a few bugs. Even after applying the latest update, some of the new links worked at first and then stopped working. I’m not sure if it is a memory issue, as no messages are displayed.

    Overall

For New York students and teachers preparing for the Regents test, this app is a great resource for both test preparation and lesson planning. With a little more introductory information on using the app, it could also be a Buddy to homeschoolers and chemistry teachers in general.
