Coloring Smart – Fun and Education for Kids – Fun Coloring Book

Coloring Smart is a great coloring app that reminds me about back in the days when I did them in the coloring books myself. It has so many conveniences, and I just hope they will continue adding more pages as well as separate the addition pages from the shapes/numbers to avoid frustration in the younger fans of this app.

Who didn’t love those coloring by numbers according to the key to see what the hidden picture was in the end? This Coloring Smart app is a bit fancier as it adds technology to the mix! Unlike the traditional paper drawings, you can recolor pictures as many times as you want. You don’t have to have the right color crayons close at hand either. It makes coloring by number while travelling easier too as you don’t have to worry about carrying the crayons and key along with you. All you need is the app and iPhone, iPod, or iPad (as it is a universal app.) Of course, since the iPad is larger, it is easier to use and see, but the iPhone worked too.

In addition to working with colors, children can work with shapes, numbers, and simple addition within their 36 drawings. These pictures are divided into six child-friendly categories: people, fairy tales, nature, animals, transportation, and seasons. Each category has six drawings: two color pages with shapes, two with numbers, and two with simple addition facts.

When the user finishes a coloring page correctly, a happy tune is played. There are also some sounds played when a section is colored correctly. It would be nice to have the ability to mute sounds within the app (so one would not have to mute the device altogether.)

    What ElementaryTeacher Liked

My toddler has loved painting apps for quite awhile now. However, at this point she tends to color every space the same color so that the page is all painted the same. So this was an opportunity for her to correlate numbers, colors, and shapes according to the key at the top of the page. It was easy for her to pick up the concept when the wrong colors wouldn’t fit. So it’s a great app to learn association between colors and shapes/numbers etc.

    Suggested Enhancement

I hope the developer will add more pictures soon. I’d also add the setting to mute the sound if that is of interest to the user to have a quiet app. And the other thing I would change is putting the addition pages in a separate section, as most 3-5 year olds don’t know much, if anything, about addition yet. Those pages can be very confusing for a toddler, and they just see more coloring pages, yet get frustrated when the choices they make are not right. So if they section that off, they can even add some pages with not only addition facts but subtraction facts as well in the future.

    Overall

Coloring Smart is a great coloring app that reminds me about back in the days when I did them in the coloring books myself. It has so many conveniences, and I just hope they will continue adding more pages as well as separate the addition pages from the shapes/numbers to avoid frustration in the younger fans of this app.
