Fido’s Treehouse Scavenger Hunt is an interactive game app for kids that simulates the experience of a real scavenger hunt. The are two game modes for kids of different ages. First is the “Free Play Mode” for ages 1-5 where kids can simply explore the page and interact with the elements within the page. Second is the “Challenge Mode” for ages 5-8 where kids will be given clues and have to find the specific items based on those clues.
Your younger children will definitely enjoy exploring the highly interactive environment. Most items can be moved or animated which allow your child to wake the dog, water the plant, grow a flower, etc. There are loads of items to be discovered so even the younger users playing the free play mode will definitely be spending some time with this app.
The second game mode contains the same interactive environment but this time, they are given clues as to what they need to look for. This mode is more of a scavenger hunt because the clues are somewhat vague and users need to think about the clue before starting to look for the items. Sometimes, finding an item requires more than one step like looking for a decoder sheet to decode the clue of what to find. If the clues are hard, there are hints that the app gives to help users find what they need to be looking for.
Fido’s Treehouse Scavenger Hunt has been optimized to play on iPad 2 and the New iPad (iPad 1 may experience significant performance drop or even crashes).
What iHeartThisApp Liked
The app’s main feature is the highly interactive environment that it presents. There are loads of stuff that children can touch, move, and play with. Some items are animated when tapped and these are integrated into the scavenger hunt aspect of the “Challenge mode”
The decision of having two game modes is great because it extends the age limit of children who can play with the app. The two modes are also well-labeled on the main menu so parents will know right away which mode is better suited for their children. The free play mode allows users to explore on their own and learn and play with the items in the environment. The challenge mode is harder because clues need to be deciphered in order to look for the correct item. Some clues are not as obvious but hints are provided to those who are finding it hard to understand the clues.
The app is designed for independent play and learn, learn by exploration, and inquisitive play and learn.
While the visuals and interactivity of the app is top notch, I noticed that the voice over quality is not quite up to par. The voice over is echo-ey and not as clear. The app will certainly benefit from a higher quality recording for the voice over.
