Goodnight ABC is an interactive app for children that teaches them all about the alphabet and expands their vocabulary as well. The app presents all the letters of the alphabet by assigning an animal that starts with the corresponding letter and laying all these tiles in a grid form on a menu. Tapping a specific letter will bring up a full screen picture of that specific animal in its own unique and interactive environment. Each environment is different for each letter and animal but everything is filled with numerous elements that can be discovered and interacted with.
Within each picture, a user can tap objects to unlock animations or sound effects. Tapping different objects have different effects so children will definitely take time and have fun exploring each unique micro world. Users can even tap and drag the sun to turn it into night and make the animal sleep.
Aside from the interactive environments, the app also offers a couple of game modes to enjoy: the vocabulary and coloring modes. Tapping the graduation toga icon on the lower left hand side of the screen will allow users to tap objects on the screen to see and hear what it is. The name of the object will appear beside it while a narrator will read it out loud. This game mode will definitely familiarize children with the names of some of the more common and advanced things that they will probably encounter in the future. Tapping the pencil icon on the lower right hand corner of the screen activates coloring mode which turns the picture into black and white which users can color using their fingers. Options such as Reset, Undo, Redo, and 3 different brush sizes give users a decent amount of control over the coloring activity.
What iHeartThisApp Liked
The layout of the app is simple and intuitive. For the letters menu, the tiles are organized and illustrated neatly so as to avoid confusion among users. All the buttons like the Home, Letters menu, Vocabular, and Color are organized well within the screen. Even though an environment contains lots of elements, the screen does not look cluttered even with the buttons around. I like the “How to Play” section because it effectively teaches users how to play and control the app.
The best part of the app are the full screen interactive environments. Each letter is unique and has tons of elements within them to explore and discover. The visuals, music, and sound effects are great. Children will definitely be spending lots of time tinkering with these.
The vocabulary mode makes sure that the app teaches more than just the alphabets. A lot of the objects within each environment can be tapped to revel the name and hear the narrator read it out loud. Children’s vocabularies will expand after spending time with this. Finally, the coloring mode will familiarize users with colors and allow them to explore their creative side.
Goodnight ABC is an interactive educational app that teaches more than just the alphabet. The unique interactive environments for each letter make sure that children learn while having an enjoyable experience at the same time.
