Wow! Oceanhouse Media continues to add to their omBook collection. Horton Hatches the Egg joins Horton Hears a Who! and a plethora of other Dr. Seuss titles.
In Horton Hatches the Egg, a very lazy, selfish bird by the name of Mayzie decides that she is bored sitting on her nest. She persuades the friendly Horton the elephant to sit on the egg in her place. Even though he thinks about it for awhile, considering the size of the egg versus the size of him. While Maysie goes on a vacation, trusting Horton to sit on her nest throughout the seasons and weather changes. Horton is teased and taunted by his friends in the jungle, “How Absurd! Old Horton the Elephant thinks he’s a bird!” So what will become of Horton the trustworthy Elephant as well as the egg? As do the majority of Dr. Seuss books, Horton helps teach children a lesson in being rewarded for having high moral standards!
Just like Oceanhouse Media’s other omBooks, you have the options to “Read to Me” (reader turns the pages, sees the words highlighted as they are read by a professional narrator) “Read it Myself,” (like a book where you turn the pages and read on your own with sound effects in the background,) or “Auto Play” (like a movie especially good for the younger audience.)
What ElementaryTeacher Liked
Horton Hatches the Egg is a very silly Dr. Seuss book that goes to another level. It’s definitely one one of those “teachable moment” books. So if you’re studying up on virtue, this is a perfect short story to read to your class/children. It has all the typical features of Oceanhouse Media’s omBooks. My 2 year old loved all the app’s background noises, especially when the birds are tweeting or when the snow is falling. She giggled at the sight of the elephant sitting on top of a tiny tree. And as usual, this Dr. Seuss app has great narration and fun to read rhymes! By the time the book was over, she was basically reciting over and over, “I meant what I said, And I said what I meant…..An elephant’s faithful One hundred per cent!”
Overall
The interactive pages, great narration, highlighted words, and sound effects make Horton Hatches the Egg-Dr. Seuss a fun read! It’s a great book when teaching or talking about virtue.
