Details
In this storybook app for toddlers and early readers, Little Critter faces the common yet tragic loss of his baseball mitt. He looks everywhere before asking his mom. Mom suggests it may be in his room, which needs a good overhaul before being featured on a “Toddler Hoarders” episode. Unable to find anyone in the family to help with the massive project, Little Critter uses the age-old cleaning strategy of squishing, squashing, stuffing, and hiding. Will he find his mitt? Will the closet door be opened with slapstick comedic results? I won’t ruin the surprise.
What Diane Liked
Our family has enjoyed the Little Critter series for years, and this version does not disappoint. The app contains word highlighting and labeling that make it highly effective for young children and early readers. The sound effects are very well-done and imply animation without distracting the reader. The groaning and squeaking sounds of an overstressed closet door are quite humorous if not completely relatable.
Suggested Enhancement
Good story, nice effects, low storage space requirement—all good.
Overall
Little Critter: Just a Mess is an entertaining and well-made app for young children and early readers.
