Let’s Eat is an interactive learning app for the Ipad 2 and the Ipad 3 that teaches children to identify and say different foods. Developed by a speech language pathologist, the app combines visuals, spoken words, and music into a simple yet fun activity that will develop children’s speech and language skills.
Children are shown a monkey in front of a table with food. The narrator will then ask the user to give the monkey a specific food, and the child will have to select and drag the food to the monkey’s mouth and watch while it eats it. In this seemingly very simple activity, children will learn and develop several important skills. Listening skills are developed when the narrator asks for the food by saying and enunciating each syllable of the word. Children are then encouraged to imitate the sounds that they hear. Children will also be able to correlate the sight words that are presented to the visual representation on the table and the sounds that the narrator says. The rhythmic and rapping presentation of the audio serve to both entice children to repeat the words and it actually aids in retention and quicker repetition. The app presents 24 basic food items that children will find or will be eating eventually.
What iHeartThisApp Liked
Let’s Eat is an app that has a specialized objective and it does that objective well. Being designed by a speech language pathologist gives the app legitimacy in its methods. I like how the learning is integrated well into the simple and fun activity of feeding a monkey.
The visuals are cute and colourful to entice the young users and the audio is narrator’s voice is clear and well enunciated to aid in the learning process. The screen is well laid out with the food items on the table and the sight words appearing on the upper middle part of it.
All of these elements work well together to develop the important speech and language skills in children.
Let’s Eat is an interactive learning app that will develop important speech and language skills in your children. From listening, to sound imitating, to visual and sight words identification, all these will be developed as your child enjoys and haves fun feeding the hungry monkey different food.
