Rhinomite is an interactive and educational game app done in the superhero theme but without the violence that usually comes with it. The developers have recognized the desire of parents and teachers to give their children and students a superhero-themed game designed without the violence and with a high educational content.

The main mechanic of the game is for children to manoeuvre Rhinomite through the city by swiping on the screen to avoid obstacles and collect gold coins. This mechanic is based on spatial prepositions such as Over, Under, Beneath, Around, and Through which are important to early language learning. While Rhinomite continuously flies forward, the prepositions are given on-screen and said by a narrator so users can react by swiping the screen.

Some simple math related learning can also be found in this game. Each gold coin is equivalent to 10 gold points which is useful for children learning to count by tens. The longer the distance that Rhinomite flies, the higher the score. The collected gold coins can be used to unlock and buy rewards such as costume upgrades. When buying these upgrades, the game shows the subtraction equation by deducting the total gold points with the costume upgrade cost. The comic book superhero theme will definitely inspire children to be creative and imaginative while learning.

I admire how the developers have successfully created a superhero themed game without showing violence or any weapons. I also like how they incorporated learning into it by focusing on the different prepositions such as Above, Around, Below, Beneath, Between, Down, Over, Through, Under, Underneath, Up. The way they focused on these to aid with manoeuvring Rhinomite through the different obstacles in the city is pretty creative. The math aspect of the game through collecting gold coins and subtracting the upgrade costs is also well done.

Aside from those, children also develop other skills, such as hand-eye coordination, concentration, listening and reflex. Creativity is also encouraged through the different combinations in dressing up Rhinomite.

The 3D character and environment is very good and the comic book style art direction of incorporating the prepositions and the instructions is also well executed. Users will not find it hard to learn to control the game.

Overall

Rhinomite is an excellent educational game done in the comic book super hero theme. It has none of the violence but all of the learning that your children will pick up – from prepositions to math! Other skills will also be developed such as reflex, concentration, and creativity in this fun, addictive, and educational game.
