Math Facts by SoGaBee is an interactive activity and game app that will hone your children’s skills in basic addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division. The app has three game modes for kids to learn from: Flash Cards, Multiple Choice, and Fill In.

The first mode shows equations in flash cards style for parents or teachers to teach their kids or students before they go into the games. After choosing from the four different operations and picking a level between 1 to 12, the app will give equations in flash card format for teachers or parents to teach the children. You can turn on “Quiz Mode” and the app hides the answer for you. Tapping “Show Answer” will reveal the correct answer. You can also turn the mode off to fully show the equation. This mode is definitely a good tool that can be used to teach.

Multiple Choice is a game mode where children get to practice their arithmetic skills by answering equations through selecting from the given choices.
After choosing a specific operation and level, children will be given 12 equations to answer. They are given 3 chances to correct mistakes. Scores are given at the end of 12 questions or when they use up the 3 chances, whichever comes first. In this mode, some levels are locked and can only be unlocked by completing a prior level.

Fill In is another game mode for children to practice on. In this mode, children are still given incomplete equations that they have to answer by typing in the answer through the calculator interface. Similar to the previous mode, children are also given 3 chances to correct mistakes and some levels are also locked.

To make it fun for children, there are different themes that could also be chosen before playing the game by choosing between a robot, a dinosaur, and a girl. The interface changes with the chosen avatar. In “Flash Cards” the chosen avatar holds the cards while in “Multiple Choice” and “Fill In”, they are completed puzzle-style as children get the correct answers.

Multiple user profiles can be created within the app and it tracks scores and statistics for them. Parents and teachers will surely appreciate this function as it will greatly help them track their students’ progresses.

Math Facts is a very good tool to teach and hone young children’s elementary arithmetic skills. It presents colorful and eye catching themes and cartoon characters and blends it with the flash cards and math games well to entice children to learn.

I like that the developers designed the app to keep the parents and teachers involved in the learning process. “Flash Cards” mode is meant to be used by parents and teachers to teach, show, and eventually quiz their students. The score and statistics tracking also make following the children’s progresses easier.

One unique feature of the app is the “Custom Level” function. The game keeps track of problems that were answered incorrectly. These are then collected as “tricky problems” and can be sorted as a whole or as specific operations. The teacher or parent can select these tricky problems then select the game mode so they can have their children focus on these problems that they are having trouble with. Answering a tricky problem correctly 3 times in row removes it from the list. This is definitely a very useful tool to take advantage of.
