Tooth Monster HD is an interactive playbook that introduces children to oral hygiene in a fun way. First, there is an adventure story where children will follow Jini and Bini as they travel to the White Smile Kingdom where they encounter space villains called Plaque Monsters that attack them and try to build a Plaque Kingdom in the Mouthworld. Watch how Jini and Bini solves this problem by calling on the Cavity Fighters! This fairytale-like story is an alludes to what happens to your mouth, teeth, and gums when you do not brush your teeth.

Aside from the lessons to be learned in the story, there are also some mini games to have fun and learn from. “Hide-and-Seek” is a game where users need to find hidden friends. You are given illustrations of scenes from the story and are given 5 pictures of friends that you need to look for in the picture. You need to go through all 6 pictures and whoever does it the fastest wins. If it’s getting too hard to find something, there are hints available to help you out.

The Plaque War is a game where you earn points as the Cavity Fighters defend the White Smile Kingdom against the Plaque Monsters that invade the kingdom. As the Plaque Monsters build poop and cavities in the mouth, you must clean them quickly before they are able to establish their Plaque Kingdom. As you progress, Plaque Monsters level up and build poop and cavities faster which gets harder to defend against.

Brush Your Teeth is a game where children are taught the proper brush strokes and steps to brushing such as the outside teeth, inside teeth, back teeth and tongue. Children are shown the correct way to clean them through diagrams and they will learn by moving their fingers around to follow the arrows. Stamps are given as rewards when you finish brushing your teeth.

This is a hefty app that contains a lot of materials to play with and learn from. The main content is the fairy tale story that alludes to what happens in your mouth when plaque builds up and how brushing can help deal with the problem. The story itself is effective with its cartoony visuals, clear and lively voice acting, and catchy songs. The part where the Plaque Monsters are starting to build poop and cavities actually scared me a bit and I think that children will definitely remember those scenes and be reminded of the importance of always keeping your teeth, gums, and mouth clean.

The “Brush Your Teeth” mini game is an important part of this app because it teaches children the proper way to brush the different parts of their teeth. The arrow diagrams for each part and how they play the game by repeating the brush stroke will make retention and application of these brush strokes easier for the children.

The app’s menus, buttons, and layout is simple and intuitive. Instructions are always around to help users out whether it be voice over narration of what to do, diagrams, text instructions, or hints. There are also options like recording your own voice which will help children with their reading comprehension and allow them to make the app their own.
