Trouble at Trio Farm – Introduces Pre-Schoolers with Numbers and Simple Maths

Learning about numbers is what Trouble at Trio Farm is about. This interactive storybook app incorporates numbers and simple mathematics into simple things like names and hidden within the artwork to support learning and memory retention for your pre-schoolers. Let them use this app to help them improve important skills like reading and listening comprehension along with numeracy skills.

    Details

Trouble at Trio Farm is an interactive storybook app for your pre-schoolers that introduces them to numbers and simple mathematics while entertaining them with an amusing story. Farmer Freda Three lives at Trio Farm and sells fruit and vegetables from her farm shop, but one day a four legged thief broke into the shop and ate most of her apples and turnips. Help Ernie Eight the Policeman and Freda solve the mystery of the missing fruit and vegetables.

This app works just like any other storybook app. It has full screen illustrations with story text box and the option to turn the voice over narration on or off. You simple need to swipe the screen to advance through the story, and there are buttons to go back to the main menu or access the table of contents.

The story helps familiarize children with numbers by incorporating them into characters’ names (ex. Farmer Freda Three, Nun Nine, etc.) and incorporating it into the environment in the artwork. Repetition visually and through audio will definitely help children learn and retain these without them knowing. The story focuses more on the number 3, simple addition, subtraction and incorporates an interactive number pad to help your child learn to count the fun way using characters from Number Town.

    What iHeartThisApp Liked

The app’s layout and controls are simple and intuitive – perfect for pre-schoolers to use. The artwork is cute and colourful to attract your young ones. The voice over narration is clear with good voice acting supported by highlighting words as they are being read. I also noticed that almost each of the characters including the narrator employ different accents. This is a nice way to introduce language diversity to children early on.

I like how numbers and simple mathematics are incorporated into the story through the names of the characters and hidden within the artwork. Repetition is utilized through saying the numbers with the names or showing the numbers within the artwork to effectively help children learn and remember them. Tapping some elements within the environment also prompts the narrator to say what that object is further teaching children about everyday things that they will encounter eventually.

This app will develop your child’s reading comprehension, develop listening & speaking skills and expand children’s awareness of numeracy skills. Subjects such as geography and science and their close relationship with mathematics are explored.
